Dunbar School
Dunbar School was Flagstaff's first segregated school; it opened in 1927. Before Dunbar school was built, black students were taught in a single room at Emerson Middle School. From 1927 to 1952 Dunbar school taught Flagstaff's African-American population. In 1952 Flagstaff schools were desegregated, and Dunbar school was closed down. After its closure the children attending Dunbar were transferred to South Beaver Elementary school, where the African-American children were integrated with the Hispanic population.
